About the Event
“Paivapo”…”Dzepfunde” “Paivapo”…”Dzepfunde” One warm summers evening in the village of Shurugwi Zimbabwe, the sun is setting and the mothers have prepared the cooking pots for supper, all while the grannies gather the rest of the community with excitement and they can begin to utter and shake their heads at that one drunk village nutter. The children have done their chores and finished playing, the fathers are quick to join the circle so that there may be no delaying. Onwards is the view of the prominent pink tree that stands in the middle of the village just before the sea. The crinkling of the firewood begins to set the mood and everyone's feeling good, they get into a comfortable position for the telling of the tales around the fire. 1, 2, 3, I begin with so much desire. 'Paivapo Dzepfunde' is a one-woman show that follows the storytelling of a second-generation diaspora as she relives her family’s journey from Zimbabwe to England.
